Deep Vein Thrombosis
摘要
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) kills more people in any given year than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined, and yet the level of awareness and prevention remains low. Conditions like obesity, malignancies, the use of contraceptives, or immobilization can increase thrombosis risk. That said, it is very uncommon to develop a VTE just by sitting for an extended period. This supports the “multiple hit” hypothesis that additional risk factors play a role in developing acute thrombus formation. The advent of direct oral anticoagulants has simplified the treatment of acute thrombosis. Still, this statement cannot be applied as an absolute, as conditions such as renal or liver failure and special populations require dose adjustments or alternative treatments.
