The power of a service-learning scaffold is in the interplay of experience and reflection, which involves both being available for “real world” experience and having the opportunity to consider and learn from it. The activity is often the engaging part. It is the aspect that first draws people in. Reflecting on the experience an be the personally transforming aspect. This case study shows how students reflecting on their engagement with a community service project become more agentic and capable of helping make a better life for each of us, and a better world for all of us.
