A Kaleidoscope of Communities
摘要
This chapter explores the diverse and evolving community landscape of 4ZZZ, focusing on how the station platforms underrepresented voices and fosters social change. Through the lens of key groups, including First Nations Australians, women, and LGBTIQ+ communities, it examines how radio programming at 4ZZZ has responded to structural exclusion to create spaces of inclusion, activism, and creative self-expression. Programs like Megaherzzz, Gay Waves, Murri Hour, SoulJah Sistars, and Tranzmission illustrate the power of radio as both a political and cultural tool. ‘A kaleidoscope of communities’ also highlights community-building initiatives like the Reclink Community Cup (Australian Rules Football) and the station’s efforts to improve accessibility through programs and projects such as Only Human and Accessible Zed. Stories of feminist organising, trans-led programming and First Nations broadcasting show how 4ZZZ’s inclusive ethos is enacted both on-air and behind the scenes. This chapter celebrates 4ZZZ’s role as a platform that adapts to the changing needs of its community, continuing to empower volunteers and amplify marginalised voices.
