Regulatory Environment in Sustainable Asset Management

This chapter discusses the current regulatory landscape in sustainable finance and highlights specific trends and developments in regulations. The focus is driven on how sustainable investments are approached and defined in the main global hubs for asset management. The assessment reveals that there are common developments in trying to set frameworks and definitions for sustainable investments, with the tendency on focusing on climate transition. This chapter further discusses, if regulation is fostering or hindering sustainable investments. Looking at the market development, we observe today different regional market fluctuations for sustainable products due to different reasons, among else being it regulatory scrutiny. Fixed income strategies remain a strong asset class as well for sustainable finance product, due to the possibility to link project performance with climate goals. Private markets on the other side, are becoming more and more interesting in the future in order to support the transition to net zero.
