For more than 30 years, digital 3D modelling and visualization technologies have been widely used to support research and education in the humanities, especially but not exclusively for historical architecture. This article is proposed to highlight core concepts and challenges of documentation of 3D models of built heritage and particularly of 3D reconstructions as usually hand-modelled digital representations of no more extant or never realized buildings and cityscapes. This article is proposed to (a) highlight core concepts of documentation of 3D re-constructions, to (b) highlight technologies and particularly AI-based approaches for automatically generating 3D reconstructions of built heritage from multimodal data and (c) to discuss and assess their documentation.

摘要
