Sustainable Practices: Balancing Efficiency and Environmental Impact
摘要
In an era of profound technological innovation, the agriculture sector faces the exigent dual challenge of enhancing production efficiency while mitigating its considerable environmental footprint. This chapter critically examines the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in navigating the intricate balance between agricultural productivity and ecological stewardship. While the dominant narrative focuses on techno-optimism, we argue that the true potential of these technologies is realized only when their deployment is synergistically aligned with agroecological principles and equitable governance. By leveraging AI-driven data analytics and sophisticated IoT sensor networks, farmers can transition from prescriptive, input-heavy practices to predictive, knowledge-intensive systems. This facilitates optimized resource allocation, a significant reduction in agrochemical use, and minimized energy consumption. We analyze advanced applications—including AI-powered integrated pest management, dynamic digital twins for water management, and sensor-driven precision nutrient strategies—as core components of this new paradigm. Through a critical evaluation of real-world case studies, this chapter demonstrates how AI and IoT can foster not only economic efficiency but also promote long-term environmental sustainability. Ultimately, we contend that as the agricultural landscape evolves, the thoughtful and ethical adoption of these smart technologies is an indispensable pillar in the global pursuit of climate-smart agriculture and resilient food systems.
