The protocol for The Young Adult Study of outcomes related to the Friends of the Children youth professional mentoring program is described. The study began in 2007 as The Child Study (TCS) in four U.S. cities and has followed children randomized to the Friends of the Children program or a referral only control condition from kindergarten until today, when participants are entering their young adult years. The aims and hypotheses are presented, along with information about the research design and analyses. Issues for consideration in the future are discussed.
