The chapter examines how the media shapes the image of criminalised women, drawing on the Lithuanian case. Female offenders are portrayed as “doubly deviant”, violating not only the law but also dominant expectations of femininity, care, and motherhood. Such portrayals are particularly pronounced in cases involving violence or crimes against children, where women’s behaviour is frequently moralised, with emphasis placed on appearance, family status, or alleged moral decline. Although most women commit non-violent offences, media coverage tends to focus on exceptional and sensational cases, thereby reinforcing stereotypes and societal bias against socially vulnerable women.

摘要
