Geopolitics of Oil and Trade War

Oil plays a significant role in global policy and geopolitics. As a scarce resource, it is central to political dynamics in the Middle East. During the Cold War era, the US and USSR influenced the Middle East because of their geopolitical influence on the oil market and the Suez Canal. This chapter analyzes the geopolitical importance of the Middle East and Venezuela in the context of the geopolitical importance of oil. After the post-Cold War period, Russian influence declined in the Middle East. This chapter examines the crucial role played by Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Iraq, and the Gulf War; Libya, Yemen, Sudan, South Sudan, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Republic of the Congo; Angola, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and the Soviet Union; and Afghanistan, Ukraine, Russia, Great Britain, and the U.S. in the geopolitics of oilGeopolitics of oil and trade politics.
