As a consequence of the anthropocentric paradigm, which separated culture from nature, books that address environmental law usually do not offer a chapter with data and reflections on the ecological crisis. However, considering that this work proposes to overcome the nature/culture dichotomy through the principle of harmony with nature, we find it important to dedicate a chapter to reflect on the main symptoms of the current environmental crisis. This is because the jurist must understand the data of the biosphere’s reality to then qualify as an interpreter of environmental norms. Thus, in this chapter, an analysis will be made of human intervention as a telluric force that is altering the geology of the Earth system, establishing a new geological period that could be called the Anthropocene.
