Religion and Spirituality in Social Work in Africa: Implications for Health and Healing
摘要
Religion and spirituality issues are central to human development. This chapter interrogates the utility of religion and spirituality in various fields of social work in Africa. This is based on a review of secondary sources of data. Research findings suggest that various fields of social work have integrated religion and spirituality issues poorly. The various fields of social work in Africa have been imported from the Western world. As a result of professional imperialism, social work in Africa has relegated religion and spirituality issues. Subsequently, this has severely affected the relevance and effectiveness of social work in Africa in terms of responding to the challenges bedeviling the region. The chapter concludes by lobbying for the integration or infusion of religion and spirituality issues in the various fields of social work in Africa.
