This study examined the impact of cultural and religious practices on inclusivity, addressing a gap in the existing literature that has paid relatively little attention to this topic. Employing a qualitative design, the research involved 36 participants selected through expert purposive sampling. Data were gathered through interviews and focus group discussions and analysed using inductive thematic analysis, allowing themes to emerge naturally from the dataset. The findings revealed that communal festivals, ancestral rites, and communal decision-making practices foster inclusivity by integrating diverse individuals and honouring contributions from all community members. Conversely, clan-based hierarchies and the marginalisation of non-indigenous groups highlight exclusionary practices. The study also found that Christian doctrines of love, compassion, and equality, as well as Islamic principles of justice, equality, and community solidarity, contribute to inclusivity, while certain doctrinal interpretations within both religions lead to exclusivity. The conclusion emphasises the importance of promoting inclusive practices within cultural and religious contexts. Key recommendations include empowering traditional leaders to enhance inclusive communal practices, equipping religious leaders to emphasize doctrines of love and justice, and engaging community members in culturally sensitive educational programs. These measures aim to strengthen social cohesion and unity, fostering a more inclusive society.
