The perceptual process of individuating objects and distinguishing them from their backgrounds as well as other objects can be explained as a consequence of predictive processing without making assumptions about the world’s mind-independent objects. In the form of a debunking argument, this implies that it would only be by coincidence if the Px-structure were also present in the mind-independent world. The resulting idealism can defend itself from concerns about triviality and about failing to account for communicating individuals.
