Much of predictive processing supports a version of Kantian idealism. Not only does the brain’s active nature, involving top-down processing, undermine many realist assumptions, there are also reasons to believe that hyperpriors are innately biased, shaping our experiences in ways that are not necessarily veridical. Studies show that hyperpriors are very likely to encode for assumptions about the world that are biased away from how the world is really like in favour of more useful assumptions that enable higher chances of survival.

摘要

Much of predictive processing supports a version of Kantian idealism. Not only does the brain’s active nature, involving top-down processing, undermine many realist assumptions, there are also reasons to believe that hyperpriors are innately biased, shaping our experiences in ways that are not necessarily veridical. Studies show that hyperpriors are very likely to encode for assumptions about the world that are biased away from how the world is really like in favour of more useful assumptions that enable higher chances of survival.
