The Spiritual Crisis in Western Culture
摘要
This chapter examines the Western spiritual crisis through two interwoven lenses: its impact on individual flourishing and its broader cultural consequences, indicative of the Church’s diminishing role in public life. These private and public dimensions are inseparable, as demonstrated through the rise of Christian nationalism, Trump’s MAGA movement, and Putin’s ‘Russkiy Mir’—expressions of what Umberto Eco terms ‘Ur-Fascism’ (eternal fascism). The chapter also critiques the pervasive influence of free-market economics, which commodifies human value rather than recognising the inherent spiritual dignity of individuals made in the image of God.
