The present chapter offers a tentative model for the psychological rehabilitation of acid attack survivors, gleaned from the raw data of their lived experiences. The narrative interviews conducted with the acid attack survivors were analysed using thematic content analysis. The emergent themes (discussed in detail in previous chapters) were examined not only individually but also in terms of their interrelationships, enabling the development of a data-driven, inductive model. The model reflects on a journey starting at the origin of the attack, through the terrain of social support seeking and coping mechanisms, and finally arriving at the crossroads of an adaptive or maladaptive psychological makeup. Throughout this journey, we critically assess the efficacy (and lack thereof) of rehabilitation efforts. Thus, highlighting the need for additional testing and streamlining of our model on a broader range of survivors and populations. Furthermore, the Transactional Model of Resilience provided the theoretical lens through which the dynamics of coping, adaptation, and support were interpreted, offering a contextualized understanding of psychological rehabilitation in the aftermath of acid violence.
