Laparoscopy in Benign Masses and Pathologies
摘要
Over the past few decades, laparoscopy has become the gold standard for a wide range of gynecologic procedures and the most commonly performed surgical approach in Western countries. The purpose of this chapter is to analyze the role of laparoscopic surgery for benign gynecologic masses. One of the goals is to highlight the advantages of minimally invasive surgery. For benign masses, laparoscopy is the recommended procedure due to shorter hospital stay, less postoperative pain, lower risk of complications, and better aesthetic results. Other than total hysterectomy for benign conditions, the most common procedures for benign masses are laparoscopic myomectomy and surgery for adnexal pathologies, including ovarian cyst enucleation and salpingo-oophorectomy. One problem associated with laparoscopic procedures is the way of specimen extraction. Analyzing the different methods of specimen extraction after a laparoscopic procedure, it emerged that the use of an endoscopic bag for transumbilical or transvaginal extraction should be the recommended technique.
