This conclusion argues that D’Annunzio’s reimagining of the Renaissance served as a crucial ideological foundation for his ethnonationalist vision and is essential for understanding his position within European modernism. His invocation of the Renaissance reflects a broader modernist impulse to reinterpret history as a source of renewal, with the concept of ‘Renaissance’ serving as an epistemological framework for the reconfiguration of both cultural and national futures. This framework shapes a distinct temporality that bridges the past, present, and future and remakes unity in a fragmented world. This chapter thus calls for a sustained historiography of the Renaissance in European modernist thought. Furthermore, it suggests that further research into the influence of D’Annunzio’s Renaissance ideology on fascist rhetoric and contemporary nationalism could shed further light on its lasting impact on intellectual and political discourse.
