A 25-year-old G1P0 at 30 weeks of gestation was admitted to the hospital for hypertension (170/110) proteinuria, elevated liver function tests, thrombocytopenia, and hemolysis. Her diagnosis of HELLP syndrome was confirmed with a CBC and LFTs. The raspy voice was secondary to edematous vocal cords from the loss of proteins effect on oncotic loss. An infusion of magnesium was ordered to protect the patient from a seizure.
