Lateral Leadership: Introduction
摘要
Members of an organization follow with great interest the subtle tactics, minor practices, and more or less skillful maneuvers that are executed and deployed in the shadows of hierarchy. These include for example the little tricks that simplify interactions in organizations and that can be used to get something done, even without authorization. We need think only of the tactfulness with which equally ranked colleagues interact, the banter and jokes in cooperative relationships, the exaggerated respect shown to influential people, the small voluntary efforts with which people seek to produce pleasure, or the gratitude that people express, even if this is not at all necessary within the formal organization (for more on these topics, Luhmann 1964, p. 331 remains unrivalled.).
