A neopragmatist approach to the world is (self-)ironic, arising from the awareness of the contingency of the self, language, and society (Müller, 2014; Rorty, 2009 [1989]). Irony can express itself in different forms, in the case of this book, as caricatures. I will deal with considerations on the relation of caricatures as a form of satire with regard to neopragmatist irony in this chapter. To this end, I will first specify the neopragmatist understanding of irony (Sect. 3.1), then relate this to cynicism, satire, and caricature (Sect. 3.2), and finally explain the process applied to create the caricatures (Sect. 3.3). The concluding summary in turn serves to emphasize the statements made so far and to transition to the caricatures’ presentation (Sect. 3.4).
