Transesophageal echocardiography is an essential procedure in the diagnosis of valvular heart disease, if transthoracic echocardiography proves inadequate, and can also be useful for procedural planning and guidance. Transesophageal echocardiography is an essential procedure in the diagnosis of valvular heart disease, if transthoracic echocardiography proves inadequate, and can also be useful for procedural planning and guidance.
