Science Centers
摘要
In this chapter,we discuss science centers and how they can be used as out-of-school learning environments for mathematics education. In particular we argue that science centers can help students concretize mathematical concepts, develop critical thinking, and improve problem-solving skills. Activities at science centers intentionally making connections with STEM/STEAM education can support the development of interdisciplinary skills, increase students’ scientific curiosity and allow mathematical concepts to be associated with daily life. In addition, we explore the integration of these centers with educational curricula and the roles of teachers in this process. We also present two sample activities as well as general recommendations for the effective use of science centers as productive environments for out-of-school learning of mathematics.
