Planetariums
摘要
Learning is a lifelong process that extends beyond formal education. Informal learning environments enhance interest in scientific disciplines, improve observational and perceptual skills, and support personal development. Planetariums are particularly effective tools for teaching astronomy and natural sciences. They can also support mathematics education by helping students grasp abstract concepts through concrete experiences. Mathematics is often perceived as a difficult and abstract subject, but out-of-school learning environments can change this perception. Seeing real-life applications of mathematics increases student engagement. Activities conducted in the planetarium environment help visualize mathematical concepts such as geometry, trigonometry, statistics, differential calculus, and functions, which contributes to enhanced conceptual understanding. For example, spherical geometry, trigonometric calculations, and Kepler’s laws of planetary motion can be explored visually in a planetarium setting. The planetarium environment offers opportunities for effective visualization and interactive learning experiences. By engaging with activities that involve observing celestial movements and mathematical models, students can develop spatial reasoning skills. Research shows that educational programs conducted in planetariums can enhance academic achievement, promote scientific thinking, and contribute to STEM education. In conclusion, planetariums are not only valuable tools for astronomy education but also powerful resources for strengthening mathematics learning.
