Waste generation has surged due to rapid urbanization and industrialization, posing significant environmental and economic challenges. Green investments, driven by sustainable finance, offer a transformative solution to modern waste management by fostering innovation, efficiency, and circular economy principles. The chapter focuses on the dynamic convergence of sustainable finance and new-age waste management, stressing how innovative financial instruments like green bonds, public–private partnerships (PPPs), and impact investing foster improvements in waste reduction, recycling, and resource recovery. Through a detailed analysis of funding mechanisms, enabling policy architectures, and case studies across the globe, it examines how a range of green-financed waste projects contribute to improved sustainability outcomes and economic viability. Additionally, the chapter delves into initiatives and business models, such as waste-to-energy projects and zero-waste initiatives, supported by financial instruments promoting environmental responsibility. The role of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics in measuring the impact and return on investment (ROI) of green investments is also discussed. Despite the opportunities, challenges such as policy barriers, financial risks, and scalability limitations persist. This chapter concludes by proposing strategies to enhance green investment frameworks, encourage stakeholder collaboration, and scale sustainable financing models in emerging markets. By integrating green finance into waste management, cities can transition toward a resilient, low-carbon economy while addressing pressing environmental concerns.

摘要
