Forcible PNA is a doctrine which has undergone long-term scrutiny. During the course of history, it has been employed by states to promote their interests. The doctrine has undergone fluctuations in its interpretation, following the alterations in the concept of state sovereignty. This chapter demonstrates how forcible PNA and state sovereignty cannot only be analyzed through the lens of use of force. A more humancentric approach is nowadays deemed imperative, considering the dynamics of the international legal order. Such a human-centric perspective aims at the promotion of people’s rights and not only states’ ones. Finally, the chapter explains how shifts in the concepts of sovereignty affect forcible PNA.
