The use of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) for floor systems is becoming more popular in North America. Current design practices result in a product that is susceptible to rolling shear failure in the transverse laminations, particularly for short sections. The objective of the study was to evaluate the performance of CLT panels constructed using Engineered Wood Products (EWP) for the transverse layers. There is very little information on the performance of CLT panels constructed using EWP for the transverse laminations, and most of the information that is available is for three-layer panels. Tests were conducted using LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) and plywood for the transverse layers in five-layer CLT panels and these tests showed a 14.8% and a 20.8% improvement in load carrying capacity compared to a standard CLT panel constructed using sawn timber for the transverse laminations. Additionally, a comprehensive testing program was conducted to determine the best surface preparation for the EWP laminations before gluing.

摘要
