The Alliance as an Evolving Positive Collaborative Quality During Therapy Sessions: An Empirical Summary
摘要
This chapter provides an overview of the working alliance concept and a meta-analytic summary of the long-standing empirical literature on the outcome relevance of the alliance-outcome association within and between patients. The working alliance is not only the best studied relationship quality in psychotherapy, but also the best studied positive process quality in psychotherapy without neglecting the targeted clinical problems of the patients that lead them into therapy. One of the main assumptions of the alliance is the detection of positive therapeutic qualities during the therapeutic process. Based on descriptive coding system, a clinical exemplification of capturing patients’ skills, strengths, and motivational readiness during the collaborative therapeutic process is provided. The chapter concludes with a discussion of clinical implications of positive collaborative qualities.
