The infraclavicular block is a regional anaesthesia technique used for anaesthesia and analgesia of the arm, elbow, forearm, and hand by targeting the brachial plexus at the level of the cords. It provides reliable radial nerve blockade, which can be challenging with axillary blocks, and is particularly useful when arm abduction is not possible. The block can be performed using ultrasound guidance, with the costoclavicular or subcoracoid approach, ensuring precise local anaesthetic deposition. Compared to supraclavicular blocks, infraclavicular blocks carry a lower risk of phrenic nerve palsy, making them suitable for patients with respiratory compromise. Complications include vascular puncture, pneumothorax, and local anaesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST). Continuous catheter techniques offer prolonged analgesia for major upper limb surgeries.
