Aristocratic Puppet Theatre: The World in Miniature
摘要
This chapter first examines how some performances for French high society imitated the comic features of street puppets. It then discusses the use of silhouettes and marionettes in the festive entertainments of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, using the scenic inventions of Sebastiano Serlio as an example. Finally, it examines the poetics of miniaturisation in some Italian baroque opera productions performed with marionettes for aristocratic audiences in Venice, Rome, and Florence. The works of Filippo Acciaiuoli, Pietro Ottoboni, and Pier Jacopo Martello are all examined.
