Cinema and Popular Criminology: Latin American Films
摘要
The chapter is an overview of the perspectives for studying the social representation of cinema, evaluating cinema in the art-industry-power triad and the peculiarities of the perspective of popular criminology in fictional cinema. There is a long tradition of the representation of violence in global cinema, which implies the identification of aesthetics of ironic hyperviolence: the specific strategy to the postmodern cinema, dominant in the early years of the new century. The inquiry of Latin American cinema aesthetics, under the perspective of popular criminology involves the stereotypical Latinization, the criminalisation of low-class sectors and the discourse of decolonisation and resistance in the narratives. The representativeness of violence in cinema is explored in various Latin American multi-awarded films from the cinema critic views.
