The use of generative Artificial Intelligence to simulate moments with deceased loved ones has increased on social media, serving as a tribute and a means of preserving affective memories. This study analyzes users’ emotional reactions and perceptions regarding AI-generated simulations of dead individuals, based on comments posted on Instagram and TikTok. The findings suggest that when AI is not made explicit, the content is widely naturalized, eliciting intense emotional responses with limited critical awareness. In contrast, when transparency is present, additional interpretative layers emerge, including recognition of commercial interests, technical and financial frustrations, and emotional discomfort.
