Design and Validation of a Mobile Application for Remote Monitoring of Mechanically Ventilated ICU Patients in Brazil
摘要
Managing mechanical ventilation in intensive care units (ICUs) involves complex clinical and operational challenges, including ensuring patient safety, minimizing healthcare worker exposure, and facilitating communication among multidisciplinary teams. This paper presents the design and validation of a mobile application to remotely monitor patients on mechanical ventilators. The development process was guided by user-centered and participatory design principles, involving 71 ICU professionals across Brazil to define and validate core functionalities. Key features of the application include real-time visualization of ventilation parameters, alarm notifications, automatic alert routing, and the registration of hospitals and healthcare staff. A functional prototype was developed using Figma and is currently undergoing usability testing. The proposed solution enhances patient monitoring, supports collaborative care, and contributes to a safer and more efficient ICU environment. Future improvements will leverage collected data to optimize ventilator settings with collaborative design potentially contributing to optimized return on investment.
