Serious Games Development by Educators: Opportunities and Challenges
摘要
The increasing accessibility of technology has fueled the rise of EUD, allowing educators to create and modify digital games for learning. Despite advancements in user-friendly game design tools, challenges persist in balancing usability, customization, and pedagogical effectiveness. In this work, we conduct a SLR to investigate the support available for educators in game development, identifying key trends and limitations. Many tools favor ease of use over flexibility, offering limited customization, weak LMS integration, and insufficient analytics. Additionally, the limited involvement of educators in tool development raises concerns about usability and alignment with real-world needs. A significant research gap exists in artificial intelligence integration for adaptive learning and procedural content generation. Furthermore, few studies assess the long-term impact of these tools on teaching effectiveness. By mapping the current state of art and highlighting existing challenges, this review provides insights to guide future advancements in educational game design, emphasizing the need for improved accessibility, usability, and pedagogical value to support non-technical users in creating effective learning experiences.
