Global Food Systems—The Challenges and Trends in the Anthropocene Epoch
摘要
The epoch, therefore, presents a mix of challenges and opportunities for the global food system. In contrast, anthropogenic scale changes in food and agriculture are critical to understanding the Anthropocene as both a sequence of physiological events and an existential crisis of contemporary society. Food systems have the potential to enhance human health and support environmental sustainability; nevertheless, they now undermine both. Meeting the nutritional needs of an expanding global population through sustainable food systems is urgent. Agri-food systems play an important role in addressing serious environmental trends and may directly confront significant challenges associated with the Anthropocene concept. This chapter examines the essential themes that characterize the interplay between people and the environment, emphasizing the influence of food production, consumption, and distribution on climate change, biodiversity decline, and the depletion of natural resources. Primary challenges encompass unsustainable farming methods, food insecurity, waste management, and increasing population pressures. This chapter also explores upcoming trends including sustainable agriculture, technological innovation, plant-based diets, and circular economy models. It concludes by examining possible strategies for reforming the food system to reduce environmental damage while maintaining food security amid rapid ecological change.
