Climate Change and the Challenges of Water and Food Security
摘要
Climate change is a Universal concern. There is hardly any aspect of life that climate change has not influenced, be it humans, the environment they live in or the world economy. This chapter examines the interconnected relationship between water scarcity, water quality, food security and their dependence on climate change across the globe. Particularly in the scope of this chapter, valuable response options such as drip irrigation, planting climate-smart crops, and adopting agroforestry are appraised. The chapter also underscores the need for mitigation, including agricultural emission reductions and conversion of energy services to renewables. Addressing the complex water-food nexus in climate stress calls for a participatory, integrated framework. In this context, this chapter aims to constitute policy recommendations that enhance sustainable management of water and food resources in climate change by presenting examples of good practices and discussing the constraints to implementing those practices.
