Socialism and Policy Puzzling: The Autonomy Movement and the Birth of Bangladesh
摘要
This chapter examines the period of the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (Mujib) premiership, focusing on how a socialist political ideology shaped the early economic policies of a newly independent Bangladesh. In the immediate aftermath of the war of liberation, the country faced a severe economic crisis, damaged infrastructure, a dislocated administration, a massive influx of returning refugees, and acute food and financial shortages. Against this backdrop, policy planners and decision-makers turned to state-led strategies to regain control and stabilize the economy.
