The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education is changing the way HEIs work, giving teachers, students, and administration new tools to improve teaching, learning, and the way they are running academic institutions. This chapter looks at how AI is changing higher education by using personalized learning systems, smart tutoring, automated grading, virtual assistants, predictive analytics, and research facilitation. Particular focus is placed on the function of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, analyzing its capacity to both empower and confront students and educators. The chapter also addresses the moral, social, and institutional effects of using AI, such as bias, privacy, academic honesty, and access. It also investigates how AI could disrupt our way of doing things and gives higher education institutions some strategic advice on how to use AI in a responsible and successful way. The chapter also examines the integration of AI into higher education through evidence-based analysis and practical examples, along with suggestions for future planning and policy formulation.
