Ultrasound is a key tool in the assessment and management of the arteriovenous fistula for haemodialysis. It enables evalution of vascular morphology, identify anatomical variations, monitoring of fistula maturation and patency, as well as early detection of stenosis and other dysfunctions. Furthermore, it allows for cannulation guidance and reduces complications, while increasing patient safety. Nephrologist nurse training in ultrasound increases autonomy, accuracy, and confidence in vascular access management, improving patient safety, access longevity, and the quality of dialysis care.
