This research is an initiative to find out the spatio-temporal changes of a decaying river Churni with in particular time frame and the study also tries to identify the connection between anthropogenic activities and channel decay using Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS). Measurement of channel width across the cross section, various indices like Sinuosity Index (SI), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Normalized Difference Water Index (NDVI), and Supervised Classification etc. have been accomplished to figure out the channel decay. The result of the study clearly shows that there is drastic change in the width of river Churni across the drawn cross sections. The values of NDVI and NDWI both clearly show not healthy condition in respect of vegetation and water body with in the 1 kilometer (km) buffer zone of both side of the river. Supervised classification exhibits that 8.36% area of water bodies including river had been decreased from the year 1991 to 2024. And, again a drastic change has been observed in case of all selected parameters from the year 1991 to 2024.

摘要
