Existing literature The impact of big data analytics on the accounting profession Big data analytics is a game-changing technology. While organizations have long been producing ever-increasing volumes of structured and unstructured data, the accounting profession's role presents significant challenges and tremendous opportunities. To understand the challenges and opportunities of big data in accounting, this study conducts a thorough literature review and industry practices on how big data is transforming traditional accounting functions such as financial reporting, auditing, risk management and decision support systems. Drawing on challenges technical, ethical and organizational while isolating strategic opportunities for accounting professionals to provide added value through data-driven insights. We ultimately conclude that the successful integration of big data analytics mandates a paradigm shift in accounting education, professional development, and organisational infrastructure to enable its capacity to support financial decision-making processes and generate competitive advantages.
