Kinematics-Based Diagnosis and Treatment of Hand–Finger Joint Diseases

This chapter explores the principles of kinematics and their significance in diagnosing and managing joint disorders. The interplay between ligaments, tendons, and joint mechanics is analyzed to understand normal kinematic patterns and their deviations in pathological conditions such as arthritis and Dupuytren’s contracture. Additionally, the chapter highlights the importance of kinematic assessment tools—ranging from traditional joint angle measurements to advanced three-dimensional movement analysis and wearable sensors—in providing insights into joint health and informing therapeutic strategies. By addressing both normal and altered kinematics, this discussion underscores the critical role of kinematic studies in enhancing our understanding of hand function and guiding practical treatment approaches.
