With their intricate network of 27 bones distributed among the carpus, metacarpus, and digits, the wrist and hand present a fascinating study in anatomical complexity. The wrist and hand joints, each with a unique role in facilitating a diverse range of motion, are essential for everyday tasks. This chapter also underscores the significant contribution of various soft tissue structures, including intrinsic and extrinsic ligaments, to the wrist and hand’s stability. Wrist motion is described through flexion, extension, and radial-ulnar deviation, with circumduction being a combination of these movements that enables complex wrist actions. Further discussion is provided on the hand and the precise coordination of muscles, tendons, and joints performing grasp and pinch maneuvers. This chapter delves into the importance of biomechanical models of the wrist and their profound clinical implications.
