The concluding chapter of Volume 2 will evaluate contemporary issues that relate to police governance drawing particular attention to developments designed to enhance trust and confidence in policing and exploring the tensions and debates that relate to the control of policing. It will evaluate contemporary issues and debates related to police governance that include arguments relating to police operational independence, the 2025 and 2030 Policing Vision, the role of the National Policing Board and the updated (2023) Strategic Policing Requirement. The policing policies associated with the Labour government that was elected in 2024 will also be analysed in this chapter.
