A reliable estimate of the time of appearance of a video pulse against the background of white Gaussian noise under the conditions of regularity of the decision determining statistics is considered. Calculus of variations is used to find the optimal shape of the pulse, which provides the maximum accuracy of the estimate in the case of the fixed pulse energy and duration. The autocorrelation function of the pulse and its spectrum are given. The relationships between the pulse amplitude, duration, front curvature, and energy are obtained and illustrated. The gains in estimation accuracy due to the optimization of the pulse shape are calculated. #CSOC1120.
