The Richmond Enquirer’s first issue included articles about the Haitian Revolution. It attempted to report the outlook of both the white French and Black Haitian sides in the conflict. Contrary to what its readers might have expected, the Richmond Enquirer was reluctant to denounce Haiti’s black rulers. The Enquirer diligently reported on US Haitian commerce for the benefit of its readers. Other Democratic-Republican partisans, such as the celebrants at a July Fourth, 1804 Pennsylvania militia muster, voiced support for the Haitians.
