Conclusions
摘要
This concluding chapter summarizes key insights from a Nordic cooperation on children’s participation, initiated at an international conference in 2023. The anthology brings together empirical research and children’s own voices to critically examine how participation is understood and practiced across the Nordic countries. Despite strong legal frameworks and progressive welfare systems, a persistent gap remains between policy and practice. The chapters reveal how interpretations of age, maturity, and societal norms shape children’s opportunities to influence decisions affecting their lives. Power imbalances and adult-centered structures often limit meaningful engagement. By emphasizing intersectionality, relational trust, and the need for context-sensitive approaches, the anthology calls for legal, cultural, and institutional transformations. Bridging the gap between “law in books” and “law in action” is essential to empower children as active contributors to a sustainable and democratic society.
