The motivation for analyzing, processing, and working with Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) in developing environmental studies is broad. However, it can be tailored to specific fields of knowledge, such as hydrology, ecology, agronomy, or renewable energy. At the most general level of environmental sciences, this motivation can be summarized by establishing a logical reasoning based on three fundamental arguments.
