The measurement strategy outline in Sect.  2.7.2 assumed the existence of a binning scheme optimised for sensitivity to the CKM angle \(\gamma \) . In this chapter, the design of such a binning scheme is discussed. Its performance is quantitatively assessed using the maximum-likelihood method, which is a common data analysis technique for estimating model parameters from measurements. The key principles of maximum likelihood fits, which will be used repeatedly throughout this thesis, are explained in Appendix  A .

摘要

The measurement strategy outline in Sect.  2.7.2 assumed the existence of a binning scheme optimised for sensitivity to the CKM angle \(\gamma \) . In this chapter, the design of such a binning scheme is discussed. Its performance is quantitatively assessed using the maximum-likelihood method, which is a common data analysis technique for estimating model parameters from measurements. The key principles of maximum likelihood fits, which will be used repeatedly throughout this thesis, are explained in Appendix  A .
