This introduction explains the motivation for this book and situates its contribution to the discourse on human rights. The chapter outlines the foundational debates on human rights within African philosophy and maps the key themes, leading scholars, and salient theories in the existing literature that inform the chapters to follow. In addition, this chapter addresses the common methodological challenge with such provocations pursued through this book in philosophy and outlines the analytical framework guiding the book’s approach.
